Almost 600kg of waste has been removed from the seabed and shoreline around Fort Rinella and Delimara during a major clean-up led by environmental NGO Coast Is Clear Foundation.The team collected an astonishing 595kg of debris, including tyres, shipping ropes, abandoned fishing lines, rubbish bins and plastic waste, from beneath the historic Fort Rinella and the nearby sandy beach.The initiative was funded by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, with support from the Marsaxlokk Fishing Fleet (MFF), which provided a raft to help transport the heavier items recovered from the sea.Coast Is Clear Foundation praised volunteers Tom, Toby, Mel and Mark, along with four-legged helper Gorg, for their efforts to protect Malta’s marine environment while preserving the island’s coastal heritage.
