Kalaburagi: Man sentenced to life imprisonment for murder over suspected illicit relationship - The HinduPublished - July 29, 2026 07:02 pm IST - KALABURAGIThe I Additional District and Sessions Court, Kalaburagi, has sentenced a 40-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering a fellow villager over suspicion of an illicit relationship with his wife and an earlier dispute over the construction of a house.The court, presided over by judge A.V. Srinath, convicted Nagayya Shivalingayya Swami of Honnakirangi village under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of ₹25,000, with a default sentence of six months’ simple imprisonment.According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on the morning of April 17, 2024, within the jurisdiction of Farhatabad Police Station.On the day, the victim, Eeranna, had gone to fetch water from a hand pump located near Gundadari Halla in the village. The accused allegedly followed him, pulled him to the ground by grabbing his legs and repeatedly struck him on the head with a heavy Shahabad stone slab lying nearby, causing fatal head injuries. Eeranna died on the spot.The case was registered on the complaint of the deceased’s mother, Godubai, at Farhatabad Police Station. The investigation was conducted by Police Inspectors Balachandra Lakkam and Mallikarjun Ikkalki, who later filed the chargesheet against the accused.The court held the accused guilty of murder and convicted him. It also directed the deceased’s mother and wife to approach the District Legal Services Authority for victim compensation.S.R.
