English striker Oakley Cannonier has signed for Hougang United! The 22-year-old arrives ahead of the new Singapore Premier League season after completing his time with Liverpool FC, bringing an exciting pedigree to the Cheetahs' attack. With the transfer now complete, Cannonier joins his new teammates as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign. A natural centre-forward, Cannonier is known for his intelligent movement, clinical finishing and instinctive positioning inside the penalty area. Comfortable leading the line, he combines sharp movement with strong link-up play and an eye for goal. Born in Leeds, Cannonier began his footballing journey with Leeds United before joining Liverpool's Academy at the age of 11. He quickly established himself as one of the club's brightest attacking prospects, progressing through the youth ranks and representing England at Under-15, Under-16, Under-18 and Under-19 level. During the 2021/22 season, Cannonier enjoyed a remarkable campaign, finishing as Liverpool Academy's leading goalscorer with 41 goals in all competitions, including 28 in the U18 Premier League North. His performances earned him promotion to Liverpool's Under-21 squad and a new long-term contract with the club. Away from his exploits on the pitch, Cannonier became known to football supporters around the world for his role as the quick-thinking ball boy who supplied Trent Alexander-Arnold for the famous "corner taken quickly" goal against Barcelona in Liverpool's unforgettable UEFA Champions League semi-final comeback in 2019. Now, after more than a decade at one of England's biggest clubs, Cannonier begins a new chapter in his career with Hougang United. The 22-year-old arrives eager to showcase his qualities in senior football and strengthen the Cheetahs' attacking options ahead of the new season. Everyone at Hougang United would like to extend a warm welcome to Oakley Cannonier. We wish him every success in orange and black and look forward to seeing him represent the Cheetahs throughout the upcoming campaign. submitted by /u/UnSainz [link] [comments]
