My elderly farmer Uncle owns a wood lot and at Christmas we were comparing what he gets per board foot “standing” vs what I pay. He said he had some nice healthy Walnut which he can get “a lot” for at 50 cents. I pay $12 per board foot. So this oak tree, even with 200 board feet is worth about 25 cents/bf or $50 standing, and only if its healthy. A dead tree’s wood looks like crap.
