Disney has confirmed the upcoming closure of the iconic Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye.The attraction – which has operated in Adventureland since 1995 – is set to close to all guests from the beginning of September.Credit: DisneyWhy is Indiana Jones Adventure Closing?Indiana Jones Adventure opened at Disneyland on March 3, 1995, after Disney teamed up with George Lucas (pre-Lucasfilm purchase) to bring the film franchise into Adventureland. Its Temple of the Forbidden Eye paired an unusually detailed archaeological queue with a new ride system that made each troop transport pitch, bounce, and swerve. The attraction became one of Disneyland’s most popular thrill rides, complete with lava, skeletons, snakes, and its famous rolling-boulder finale. A second version, Temple of the Crystal Skull, opened at Tokyo DisneySea in 2001, swapping the Cambodian-inspired ruins for a Central American temple and a hunt for the Fountain of Youth.Notably, Tokyo DisneySea’s version of the attraction has been closed to all guests since August 2025 due to an ongoing, lengthy refurbishment. It has yet to announce a reopening timeframe.Credit: DisneyNow Disneyland’s version is also set to close from September 8 – although it’s not totally clear how long it will remain off limits to guests.Indiana Jones Adventure closed from March 17 to April 24, 2025, then again for two days in December. The first shutdown followed its 30th anniversary; the second was a quick maintenance stop. Earlier that January, Disneyland restored the complete Sallah pre-show, missing since the resort’s 2020 closure. The attraction has continued to receive smaller fixes. Its long-dormant collapsing bridge effect returned in January 2026, using the ride vehicle’s hydraulics and dropping ropes to mimic a failure. By April, the exit dig site had gained a new winch, a refreshed water tower, weathered crates, and newly displayed temple tablets.Other Closures at DisneylandIndiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye isn’t the only upcoming closure at Disneyland Resort.Haunted Mansion will close from August 8 through August 20 for its annual seasonal conversion. It returns on August 21 as Haunted Mansion Holiday, with Jack Skellington and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) taking over the New Orleans Square attraction through the festive season.Credit: Anna Fox, FlickrMark Twain Riverboat enters an open-ended refurbishment on September 8, with Disney yet to confirm its return. At Disney California Adventure, Silly Symphony Swings has been closed since April 27. Parts of the dismantled ride have recently returned, but no reopening date has been announced.A permanent loss follows in 2027, when Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! closes after more than 20 years. Disney originally targeted early 2026, but delayed the shutdown to retain more family-friendly capacity while construction advances on Disney California Adventure’s planned Avatar destination (although recent theories have suggested that Disney could abandon that concept). What changes do you predict for Indiana Jones Adventure? The post Disneyland Confirms September 8 Shutdown for Iconic ‘Indiana Jones’ Ride appeared first on Inside the Magic.
