Wait 5 sec.

Tottenham Hotspur secured a 2-1 victory over their London rivals, Chelsea, after going down to ten men in the final game of their tour of Australia and New Zealand.Let us take a look at five things we learned from the match:Jan Paul van Hecke makes his Tottenham debutRoberto De Zerbi made sure to manage the minutes of several of his first-team regulars during Spurs’ tour of New Zealand and Australia. In fact, before the game against Chelsea, as many as nine players were yet to kick a ball for Tottenham despite being included in De Zerbi’s 35-man squad. However, that did change with a few players managing to get minutes during the game. Among them was Jan Paul van Hecke, who became the latest new signing to make his first Tottenham appearance. The centre-back got a solid forty-five minutes into his legs after starting the first half, before being withdrawn at the break.Spurs fans finally had a glimpse of what they can expect from the centre-back, who was very aggressive in his tackling and often looked to push high up the pitch. Overall, it was a solid outing for the Dutchman.Kevin Danso red card shows how Spurs coped with 10 menKevin Danso was another player to earn his first minutes for Tottenham in the clash against Chelsea. The Austrian replaced Jan Paul van Hecke at half-time. However, his run-out lasted only four minutes as he was sent off following a lapse in concentration when receiving a back pass from Archie Gray.In an attempt to recover the situation, he brought down Joao Pedro. Despite the setback, Spurs managed to salvage the game, beating their London rivals 2-1.It proved to be a valuable learning experience for Tottenham, who showed impressive resilience despite going a man down.De Zerbi’s men stayed compact at the back and still offered an attacking threat, picking their moments to go forward.Mathys Tel continues electric form as Spurs assess left wingAway from the first-time appearance makers, one regular in pre-season has been Mathys Tel, who has been featuring off the left for Tottenham. The Frenchman was again named in the starting line-up and managed to feature for 76 minutes. In what is now becoming the norm, Tel again proved to be a livewire for Tottenham out wide.He was direct in his play and always looked to take on his man. Tel could well have added to his goal and assist tally this pre-season had he converted following his dazzling run in the first half, where he dribbled past Essugo only for his effort to be saved. With such impressive performances, it remains to be seen what impact it will have on Tottenham’s plans for a new left winger.Spurs have been linked with Savinho and Cody Gakpo out wide, but with Tel impressing, perhaps it could lead De Zerbi to reconsider his options.Credit: adlinc_photography / InstagramAntonin Kinsky rises to Tottenham’s number one challengeAntonin Kinsky was another Tottenham player to earn his first minutes while on tour. The Czech international, who is set to be Spurs’ number one with Guglielmo Vicario looking for a new club, looked impressive.Kinsky was a big reason Spurs walked away with a victory over Chelsea, making several good saves to keep the Lilywhites in the game.He denied Estevao twice from point-blank range to keep Spurs in the contest. The young goalkeeper certainly is rising to the number one challenge and, with displays like these, his confidence will be high heading into the new season.Andy Robertson looks shaky as Spurs still await Destiny UdogieFor the first time in pre-season, Tottenham had Andy Robertson start from the off after his impressive cameo against Sydney, where he looked sharp and offered plenty of attacking threat with his crossing. Many Spurs fans were left excited by Robertson’s display and even called for him to be the starting full-back.However, against Chelsea it was a completely different performance from the Tottenham man, who looked very shaky.Robertson switched off when marking the back post for Chelsea’s equaliser and was not always assured in possession, often giving the ball away cheaply. He also made another costly error after attempting a chest-back in a congested penalty area, with Joao Pedro on hand to pounce, but Kinsky had to bail the Scottish international out.Perhaps it is down to rust, but at this level consistency is absolutely vital. Destiny Udogie, who is meant to be Spurs’ starting full-back, was still nowhere to be seen as his minutes continue to be managed.READ MORE: Tottenham player ratings vs Chelsea – Richarlison rescues 10-man SpursThe post Five things we learned as ten man Tottenham beat Chelsea in pre-season appeared first on Spurs Web.
