Kalungu West County MP Hon. Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu has advised the new generation of Ugandan musicians to exercise patience and focus on creating timeless music instead of rushing to release back-to-back singles.Ssewungu, who described himself as a keen follower of music, said he understands the fundamentals of songwriting, from composition and structure to the build-up and climax of a song.He believes many young artists should slow down and invest more time in perfecting their craft. There’s nothing I don’t know about music—from composition, the body of a song, the build-up and the climax. The youth and musicians of today need to be calm and patient with their craft. In the past, artists would compose music with the intention of releasing a full album, unlike today where many focus on singles. Times have changed, but patience is still important. The legislator noted that songs should be given enough time to thrive in the market before artists move on to their next projects, arguing that frequent releases often prevent songs from reaching their full potential.A song should stay on the market long enough for people to enjoy it. When you quickly follow one song with another, you end up affecting the previous release. Patience, genuine love for music, and relying less on computers are lessons many young artists should embrace. Most importantly, they should learn to play instruments such as the guitar and keyboard.Shamim Malende addresses speculation over relationship with ReignSsewungu also praised the lyrical depth of classic Ugandan music, saying its meaningful messages are one of the reasons older songs continue to resonate with audiences, including young people.According to him, today’s musicians can learn a great deal from the storytelling and substance found in music produced by previous generations, qualities that have helped those songs remain relevant for decades.“Patience is key in music; every great song takes time to create.”- Hon.
