Although the park initially said only a portion of the property was affected, operations across the park quickly unraveled.Power Failure Brings SeaWorld to a StopThe outage began shortly after noon on Friday, according to San Diego Gas & Electric. Its animal-care and life-support systems continued operating despite the wider disruption to guest areas.The San Diego Fire Department also responded after smoke was reported coming from a building west of the park. Firefighters found no active fire but confirmed that an electrical issue was present.SDG&E said the problem involved SeaWorld equipment. His family then attempted to use the restrooms but was told to leave because there was no power.Another visitor, Maria Rodriguez, said she had placed a mobile food order shortly before the outage but was unable to collect it. After receiving little information from employees, her family left the park because they were hungry.SeaWorld Offers Refunds After Sudden ClosureSDG&E initially estimated that power would be restored by 10 p.m. However, SeaWorld did not wait for service to return before ending operations for the day.The park confirmed that guests affected by the closure could either use their ticket to return on another day or request a refund. That offer applied to visitors who had purchased admission for Friday.The disruption landed during one of SeaWorld San Diego’s busiest seasonal periods.
