Forrester’s Stock Has Finally Bounced. Has the Business?Forrester Research, Inc.BATS:FORRstouflacrucoForrester Research (FORR) has fallen from approximately $60 in 2022 to nearly $5–6 before rebounding toward $10. That is an extraordinary collapse for a company once viewed as a durable provider of technology research and advisory services. The latest rebound is equally striking—but my Master Buy Scanner V2 still says NO BUY. Interestingly, the scanner has a 3/3 technical score. The problem is that improving momentum does not automatically equal a valid entry. THE SCANNER’S MESSAGE The two-month chart currently shows: • Technical score: 3/3 • Action: WAIT • Decision: WAIT • Buy state: NO EVENT • Entry quality: OK — 60% • Setup maturity: CHASE • Model position size: NONE — 0% • Combined technical reading: GREEN — 7/10 • Technical cycle: ACTIVE The momentum cross, bands and broader cycle are improving. However, the stock has almost doubled from its recent low without generating a confirmed buy event. The scanner is effectively saying: “The rebound is real—but the entry is late and the business has not yet earned confidence.” WHY THE STOCK COLLAPSED Forrester operates a subscription-based research and advisory platform serving technology, marketing and business leaders. The problem is that its recurring business has been shrinking. First-quarter 2026 results showed: • Revenue: $85.5 million, down 5% • Contract value: $285.3 million, down 3% • GAAP net loss: $21.8 million • GAAP loss per share: $1.14 • Adjusted loss per share: $0.04 • Client count: 1,760, down from 1,822 Forrester also recorded a $10.8 million goodwill impairment during the quarter. Management expects full-year 2026 revenue of $350–360 million, representing another decline of approximately 9% to 12%. (https://investor.forrester.com/node/17976/pdf) This explains the scanner’s weak fundamental readings: • Business quality: RED • Quality score: 1/3 • Return on capital: -53.6% • Margin trend: -2.81% • Three-year sales growth: -9.63% This is not currently a quality-compounder setup. THE RESTRUCTURING CASE Management is simplifying the company around its core research-subscription business. Forrester is discontinuing its strategy-consulting offering, reducing headcount and attempting to direct more resources toward research, events and AI-enabled products. Research is expected to approach 80% of revenue in 2026. There are early signs of stabilization: • Client retention improved to 78% from 73% • Wallet retention improved to 89% from 86% • Contract-value decline moderated to 3% • Operating cash flow reached $25.6 million in Q1 The company finished the quarter with approximately $145.5 million in cash and marketable investments against only $35 million of debt. That balance-sheet protection matters while management attempts to stop the revenue decline. However, better retention is not the same as renewed growth. Client count, revenue and contract value are still falling. CHEAP—BUT NOT YET PROVEN The scanner rates valuation and debt GREEN: • Value score: 4/6 • Cash yield: 5.94% • Cash-flow multiple: 1.37x • Debt-to-equity: 0.59 The stock looks inexpensive relative to cash generation and its net-cash balance sheet. But traditional earnings valuation is not meaningful while GAAP profits remain negative. A low cash-flow multiple can become a value trap if revenue continues shrinking and restructuring costs absorb the apparent discount. Forrester therefore represents a different kind of opportunity from a normal quality buy: • The balance sheet provides time • The valuation reflects considerable pessimism • Retention is improving • But profitability and organic growth remain unproven THE AI QUESTION AI creates both the strongest bull case and the largest structural risk. Forrester is developing tools that allow clients to access its research inside their existing workflows and incorporate proprietary data into documents, emails and presentations. If Forrester successfully combines trusted research, proprietary benchmarks and expert analysis with AI delivery, its products could become more useful and scalable. But generative AI also makes basic research, summaries and strategic recommendations dramatically cheaper. Forrester must prove that clients will continue paying for its proprietary data and expert judgment rather than relying on increasingly capable general-purpose AI platforms. THE TECHNICAL SETUP The chart is attempting to build a long-term bottom after an extreme decline. Key areas I am watching: • $8–10: immediate pivot and first support zone • $6–7: major structural support • $11–12: first confirmation level • $15–16: next important resistance • $20–22: major recovery zone A convincing close above $11–12 followed by a successful retest would strengthen the reversal thesis. A failure back below $8 would suggest that the latest move was primarily an oversold rebound. Losing $6–7 would seriously weaken the bottoming case. THE BULL CASE • Extreme valuation reset • Strong net-cash position • Improving client and wallet retention • Recurring research-subscription revenue • Restructuring could produce a leaner business • AI integration could strengthen product delivery • Momentum is turning from deeply oversold levels THE BEAR CASE • Revenue and contract value remain in decline • Client count continues to fall • GAAP profitability is deeply negative • Return on capital and margin trends are weak • Management expects another significant revenue decline in 2026 • AI could commoditize parts of Forrester’s research offering • The stock has already rebounded sharply without a confirmed buy event MY CURRENT FRAMEWORK I would treat Forrester as a turnaround watchlist—not as an established quality or value position. My framework would be: • Avoid chasing the initial rebound • Watch for a sustained move above $11–12 • Require contract-value stabilization before increasing conviction • Look for improving operating margins and renewed client growth • Reassess below $8, with $6–7 as the major structural risk zone Forrester’s second-quarter report is the immediate catalyst. The company scheduled its earnings release and conference call for July 30 after the market close. Add it to your TradingView charts here: THE QUESTION At approximately $10, what would you do? A — Buy the turnaround before the fundamentals improve B — Wait for confirmation above $12 C — Wait for contract value and revenue to stabilize D — Avoid because AI threatens the research model Share your Forrester thesis below.
