Capcom says Pragmata will likely get a sequel following staggering sales

Wait 5 sec.

Leading up to its launch, I got the opportunity to review Capcom’s first new IP in a very long time—Pragmata—and I loved it so much that I immediately started huffing the hopium in anticipation of some sequel announcement. Once the game started selling pretty well, my excitement only grew, and now Capcom basically confirmed that a sequel will probably release at some point. This is due to Pragmata achieving a staggering 2.5 million in sales, which is quite amazing for a new IP and one that followed not long after Resident Evil Requiem came out and was still doing well across all platforms. It’s a novelty game in every sense of the word, but it’s very clearly inspired by the design philosophies of the late 2000s and early 2010s, where fun and cool mechanics are placed at the top of the list of priorities. This was the cutest s**t I’ve ever seen in my life back when I started playing it. Making those patterns with my mouse, especially in tense situations and against multiple enemies, is just something that I’ve never encountered before. And Capcom deserves all the praise it got for this title. Now, according to a Bloomberg report, the company is very confident in Pragmata, so much so that it’s “highly likely” that a sequel will roll around at some point. Capcom also attributed the game’s success to not only its gameplay but also the general appeal of Diana as its mascot, as well as the game’s strong pre-release marketing campaign. And I must say all those Diana drawings and playing into our most human emotions really did end up paying off. “[Capcom corporate officer Yoshikazu Shimauchi] said the likelihood of a sequel is high,” the report reads, “raising the prospect that Capcom could develop the title into another pillar franchise and a source of longer-term revenue.” Furthermore, the report reveals that Pragamata‘s “momentum exceeded the company’s internal expectations,” and that could possibly also inspire Capcom to start pursuing more new, exciting, and innovative ideas and IPs, without having to rely so much on established franchises. After all, we’ve been bombarded by Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Monster Hunter for long enough, even though these are some of the best games coming out lately. Still, I am more than happy to see Pragmata doing well. I gave it a 9.5 back in April. It’s as close to being perfect as it can be.0The post Capcom says Pragmata will likely get a sequel following staggering sales appeared first on Destructoid.
