This past Fourth of July, a standard drive home turned into a brush with the unknown, when a man reportedly ran into Bigfoot. The stunned driver reported he nearly plowed into an eight-foot, cone-headed creature that suddenly charged across his path in the dead of night. This incredible encounter, which has left the driver questioning his previous skepticism, offers a detailed look at what he insists was a cryptid rather than a misidentified animal. According to The Sun US and the NY Post, the encounter took place near Voluntown, Connecticut, at approximately 1:45 AM on July 5. Kevin Klimas, a resident of Rhode Island, had just departed from a friend’s rented cabin and was in the process of driving home. Klimas had only traveled about 200 yards when the figure leapt from the woods and directly into the path of his headlights. He slammed on his brakes, coming to a halt just in time to avoid a collision. Klimas reportedly described the creature as bipedal, standing between eight and eight-and-a-half feet tall. Its body was covered in long, coarse, matted, and greasy brown hair. While the hair was thick, the face had less coverage, which allowed Klimas to get a clear look at its profile. He noted, “The top of its head seemed to cone up slightly, and it had a jawline any pugilist would kill for,” in his official report. He also added a detail that contrasts with past reports. Per the outlets, he told the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, “There were no boobs.” This specific detail stands in contrast to the famous 1967 film by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin, which famously depicted a Bigfoot with a large, fur-covered bosom. Klimas remarked, “If the females are that big, I don’t want to see a male.” Recently, in a strange example of the potential height of these cryptids, Ohio residents began to report the appearance of 17-inch footprints. According to The Sun US, Klimas observed that its legs appeared unusually short in comparison to its massive torso. The arms were notably long, hanging down past its knees, and he estimated that the creature would have had an eight to nine-foot wingspan if its arms were fully outstretched. He emphasized that the movement looked far more human than that of any animal he could recognize. “I was — and remain — dumbstruck,” Klimas wrote. The outlet reported that he stayed frozen behind the wheel for as long as 90 seconds before he felt capable of continuing his drive. He was firm in his assessment of the encounter, stating, “Make no mistake. This was not a bear. This was a cryptid.” He further explained his change in perspective, noting, “I’m no longer a skeptic. This has opened up a whole new can of worms for me. What else is there? It was huge and it was terrifying.” Outside of Connecticut, Ohio has seen a massive uptick in sightings, which has even prompted the Sheriff to issue safety warnings. Both outlet reported that Kilmas’ claim has not been independently verified. Additionally, no physical evidence, photos, or videos have surfaced. Despite that, the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization has classified the report as a Class A sighting. This classification is reserved for reports where the group believes an ordinary animal or object can be ruled out with high confidence. Per the reports, Investigator Mike Young visited the site two days after the encounter and found the driver’s description to be “accurate and honest.” Young also mentioned that the area around Voluntown has seen “significant Bigfoot activity.” Another investigator, Matt Moneymaker, also deemed Klimas credible. Unfortunately, heavy rain and a ground cover of pine needles made it impossible for investigators to recover any clear tracks. Per The Sun, local authorities, including the Connecticut State Police and environmental officials, have reported no official sightings of a large bipedal animal in the region. Despite this, the BFRO notes that there are other reports from the area, including a 2019 incident near Pachaug State Forest and a more recent sighting between Oxford and Seymour in December 2024.
