Enzo Maresca has praised Ryan McAidoo’s rapid progress after the teenage winger caught the eye in Manchester City’s pre-season opener against Inter Milan, revealing he has impressed the new head coach from the moment he arrived.McAidoo, 18, came off the bench during City’s 1-1 draw with the Serie A champions in Hong Kong and injected fresh energy into the attack. The winger twice came close to snatching a late winner, repeatedly troubling the Inter defence with his direct running before City eventually lost the ensuing penalty shootout.Speaking after the match, Maresca said the academy graduate possesses exactly the qualities he looks for in a wide player.“We were speaking with the club and since day one I said he is the kind of winger I love,” Maresca said.“He is very aggressive one v one, he always tries, makes the right decisions. But he is very young and he needs the right path.”Maresca: McAidoo is the kind of winger I loveThe City boss also highlighted the importance of having wingers capable of beating defenders in one-on-one situations, placing McAidoo alongside Antoine Semenyo and Savinho among the players who impressed him.Ryan McAidoo, what a player 😮💨 pic.twitter.com/Psi7hcuWbV— Manchester City (@ManCity) August 1, 2026“If you look in the last the clubs I was part of, I always ask for those kinds of wingers.“You have to do the right process but then you need players wide who can beat players one v one.“Antoine, Savinho and Ryan were very good. We need to add more solutions for them and they will be better.”McAidoo is one of several academy players hoping to earn a place in City’s first-team plans this season after making his senior debut during the previous campaign. Seven academy graduates featured against Inter, with several more included in the travelling squad for the club’s pre-season tour.Maresca, however, insisted no decisions have yet been made regarding the futures of City’s young players, with the coaching staff planning to assess them throughout pre-season before determining whether they remain with the first team or head out on loan.“At the moment, with most of the young players, the idea was to see them during pre-season and then decide,” he said.“We are going to take the right decision. I am always very open with young players.”Follow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTokThe post Maresca hails McAidoo after impressive City display appeared first on The Football Faithful.
