USO should probably go to its Arithmetic or Geometric Target United States Oil Fund LPBATS:USORonbrown100I wrote a longer winded version of this that got erased somehow and it made all sorts of parallels to the July 2008 oil peak and subsequent destruction ... but here's the gist of it: USO doubled from $77 to $154 on the Iran war and strait closure ... then it dropped to $102 on the cease fire and very-partial straight 1/3 re-opening ... If it doubles again on this restart of the war and resumption of the strait near-closure, that's $204. That's the Geometric Symmetry. Double = Double. This is the more likely eventual scenario, but is not guaranteed. Logarithmic symmetry. $179 is the 102 + 77. That's the arithmetic symmetry. Non-log symmetry. That happens sometimes too. What I plan on doing currently though, is selling a good portion of my USO at $169 when it impacts that top trend line / channel top there ... and when and if it sells off from there on some engineered news event, I plan on buying it back, then riding it to $179 and selling again, and when it sells off, buy it back then sell at $200 or so just short of the $204 target. After that I plan to buy 2028 expiration $250 strike puts, and ride them down until around $50 ... though I may gradually sell them on well before that like around $100 or even higher, to fund other trades ... but in other words, I think USO eventually goes to $50 or so, after having gone to $200 or so (though maybe only $170), and this 75% drop would mirror the 80% or so drop from $146 to $32 that oil did from July 2008 to February 2009, which took over 7 months to play out ... so this is one of the longer term swing trades out there, which is why I mentioned before, I may partially exit early on some of it, to fund other trading ideas that I come up with, but not because I don't think it eventually does get there.
