Following an exchange among all UEFA member associations on Thursday afternoon, this skepticism was also confirmed by the European national associations. For the LFV, as well as all other UEFA associations, one thing is clear: the FIFA World Cup and other central competitions must not be treated as investment products. They are part of football's sporting heritage and have been shaped over generations by players, national teams, associations, and fans around the world. No part of this should be handed over to private investors. The involvement of private investors would change football permanently. Precisely for this reason, it is incomprehensible that a plan of this magnitude was even considered without a transparent discussion and early involvement of the member associations. Moreover, such a development carries the risk that decisions about competitions, formats, and match calendars will in future be driven more by expectations of financial returns than by the interests of the sport.
