Lava fountain several 100 meters high from Etna's Voragine crater seen on the Montagnola thermal webcam (image: INGV Catania)The second paroxysm continues and seems to be stronger than its cousin earlier this morning.In a bulletin from late afternoon, the volcano observatory reported that there is now also a new lava flow on the flanks of the summit complex; it started at 20:49 local time from a vent in the upper Valle del Leone area, at an altitude of approximately 2,700 meters above sea level. At the same time, strombolian activity - now lava fountaining - activity from the Voragine crater is also producing a lava flow that finds its way in to the adjacent North-East crater.
