If Fields wants to find a home that lasts for more than a year, though, he knows that he has to impress, and every rep matters, even in training camp. Unfortunately for him, in his early showings for the Chiefs, he hasn’t looked his best. On Wednesday, when taking a pass and dropping back, he completely failed to recognize the position of linebacker Jack Cochrane, who was there for the easy interception off of his quarterback. After being shipped away to the Pittsburgh Steelers by the Chicago Bears, Fields looked as though he had done enough to cement his role as the starter for the Black and Yellow, only for them to go with Super Bowl-winning veteran Russell Wilson. He finished his season in the Steel City having featured 10 times – six starts – in which he completed a career-high 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,106 yards and five touchdowns to one interception. Leaving as a free agent, Fields opted to join the Jets in the hope that he could be the signal caller to help the organization finally climb up and out of mediocrity. While he still completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,259 yards and 11 total touchdowns to just one interception, the Jets won just two of his nine games under center, and he was benched for Tyrod Taylor for the remainder of the season. But getting traded to Kansas City, and getting to learn from both Mahomes and coach Andy Reid was an opportunity for Fields to kick on with his career.
