SIR enumeration deadline extended till August 10 - The HinduUpdated - July 31, 2026 11:35 pm IST - HYDERABADThe Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced another extension of deadline for the Enumeration Phase in the current ongoing Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Telangana up to August 10. This amounts to a total two weeks of extension since the process had started.The door to door distribution and collection of enumeration forms officially began on June 25, in Telangana, with an initial deadline up to July 24. Midway through, an extension was announced for the Enumeration phase up to August 3. This is the second extension offered by ECI.With the latest extension, the publication of draft electoral rolls has moved to August 17, 2026, and period for claims and objections has been pushed to September 16, 2026. Disposal of claims and objections will be carried out between August 17, 2026 to October 15, 2026, which will also be the period for issue of notices against anomalies and hearings thereof.Publication of final electoral rolls will be on October 19, 2026, which is also the period when notices will be issued by the Electoral Registration Officers and hearings will be conducted.According to the data shared by Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana, C. Sudharshan Reddy, from his social media handle, only 77.12% of the enumeration forms have been digitised so far, against 100% distribution. The latest extension gives another chance for urban pockets, which are lagging behind in terms of return of the filled in forms.Hyderabad lags behind all other districts, with only 56.31% digitisation of forms, while Medchal Malkajgiri completed only 61.37% digitisation. Ranga Reddy district, which is home to significant migrant population, recorded only 63.43% digitisation. Sangareddy district, which shares part of the city, has clocked 78% digitisation.Of the other districts, only Vikarabad (78.55%) has registered less than 80% digitisation, which Mr. Sudharshan Reddy attributed to sharing of borders with Karnataka. Generally, urban pockets are lagging behind in other districts too due to high number of Absent, Shifted, Dead voters, he said.The CEO’s office has informed that the Secretary of ECI, Navin Kumar visited the state to review the progress of the SIR process, and held discussions with Mr.Sudharshan Reddy and District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner R.V.Karnan to review the implementation.Mr.Navin Kumar will reportedly review the progress of SIR in Ranga Reddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts in the coming days.Published - July 31, 2026 09:20 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
