€25,000 was raised for a Maltese delivery driver who tragically lost his leg in a car crash in Sliema, the Times of Malta has reported.57-year-old Maurice Galea was seriously injured after he got trapped between a car and his delivery van back in May.After the incident, the family appealed for help due to the cost that would come with rehabilitation and overall financial uncertainty.The public has since raised €25,000 for Galea which his family expressed sheer gratitude for.Times of Malta reported that the incident happened on Galea’s first day with a new company when he was helping to unload goods at a grocery shop on The Strand, Sliema. When he pulled down the shutter, the car crashed into the back of Galea’s van and his leg fell under the vehicle.Police officials and emergency services arrived immediately on the scene however doctors were unable to save his left leg. An infection subsequently developed and his leg had to be amputated above the knee.He must now face months of rehabilitation and requires an advanced prosthetic limb, all the while facing uncertainty on his future employment and waiting for a lengthy legal process to receive compensation.The car that crashed into Galea was a Y-plate driven by 33-year-old Libyan national Ahmed Tahruni who pleaded not guilty before a court.
