XAUUSD — NFP Trap Before the Real Move?GoldOANDA:XAUUSDEthan_TraderProXAUUSD — NFP Trap Before the Real Move? Gold is entering NFP day with a very interesting structure. After the heavy selloff last week, price finally reacted from the 4,100 area and started building a short-term recovery. But I don’t want to call this a clean bullish reversal yet, because the higher-timeframe structure is still bearish. The main reason is simple: gold is still trading below the previous breakdown zones. Price is currently around 4,190, still under the 4,284 level. That 4,284 area is important because it was the last major breakdown zone before gold expanded lower. If price returns there and fails, it can easily become a bearish retest instead of a real recovery. This week, gold has already shown two things: First, sellers are still active above the market. Second, buyers are trying to defend the lower 4,100 - 4,140 area. That creates a dangerous middle zone. Not a clean buy. Not a clean sell. This is where NFP can create the trap. With the US jobs report coming, liquidity can be taken on both sides. A weak number may create a fast bullish spike, but if price only taps 4,284 - 4,329 and rejects, sellers can reload from that area. A stronger number, or any reaction that supports USD, can push gold back toward the 4,100 low again. From an ICT view, the cleanest setup is not chasing the current price. I want to see whether gold can reclaim 4,197 first. If buyers hold above 4,197, price may attempt a recovery leg toward 4,240, then 4,284. But 4,284 is the first real test. If that level rejects, the recovery may only be a liquidity grab before another drop. The bigger sell-side structure remains valid below 4,329 - 4,377. If gold breaks above 4,377 and holds, then the bearish pressure becomes weaker. Until that happens, every rally into resistance is still a potential trap. Main Zone: 4,100 - 4,140 First Reclaim: 4,177 - 4,197 Short-Term Target: 4,240 Trap Zone: 4,284 - 4,329 Major Rejection Area: 4,346 - 4,377 Higher Mitigation Zone: 4,460 - 4,520 Invalidation for bearish pressure: strong hold above 4,377 If gold sweeps below 4,100 and quickly reclaims, buyers may create a strong reaction back toward 4,197 - 4,284. But if gold fails at 4,197 or rejects from 4,284, sellers can push price back into 4,140 - 4,100. My main view: Gold can bounce short-term, especially with NFP volatility, but the higher-timeframe trend is still bearish while price stays below 4,284 - 4,377. I’m watching for a fake recovery, not chasing the first green candle. 4,197 decides the short-term bounce. 4,284 decides the trap. 4,377 decides whether sellers lose control. Do you think gold breaks 4,284 after NFP, or traps buyers before another move down?
