I built Glassline: a macOS-style menu bar and dock that replace the Windows 11 taskbar

Wait 5 sec.

Hi everyone! I wanted the top menu bar and dock layout on Windows without it feeling bolted on, and I didn't like Rainmeter, so I built it. Glassline hides the Windows 11 taskbar and Start menu and puts a menu bar at the top and a dock at the bottom, in clear glass that takes the colour of your wallpaper. What it does Menu bar: the active app's name and menus on the left; weather, Wi-Fi, sound, battery, notifications and clock on the right. It takes the colour of a maximized window. Dock: magnification, running dots, unread counts, drag to reorder, folders that open as stacks. Search on the Windows key: apps, files, settings, sums and unit conversions. Instant file search with Everything. Ctrl+Space previews a file. Control Center: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, brightness, sound output, volume per app, Do Not Disturb, dark mode, airplane mode, hotspot. Today: calendar, events and notifications from the clock. Works on more than one display, and steps out of the way for full-screen games. When you quit Glassline, the Windows taskbar comes back exactly as it was. Same if it crashes or you uninstall it. No account, no ads and no analytics in the app. What's coming in 1.0.2 (submitted to the Store, waiting for approval) Search learns what you open and ranks it first. All local, nothing leaves your PC. Apps that close to the tray (Discord) no longer vanish from Alt+Tab Pinned apps stay pinned after they update The bar follows light/dark mode switches right away Try the live demo on the website Get it on the Microsoft Store (Windows 11, $9.99 one-time) I'd like your feedback: what would stop you from replacing your taskbar with this? If you try it and hit a bug, your Windows version and what you were doing helps me reproduce it. submitted by /u/s_a_m_12344 [link] [comments]
