Sandro Tonali’s agent has shed light on why the midfielder decided to join Tottenham Hotspur, even though the club were almost relegated last season.Tonali came to Spurs with a huge reputation and price tag, becoming Tottenham’s most expensive signing in history, and also the highest-earner in the Lilywhites’ squad.Critics are already on the 26-year-old’s back after a slow start to the season, with Spurs legend Chris Waddle recently labelling Tonali an average player.Waddle said a few days ago about the Italian: “Newcastle fans will be loving it. You know what fans are like, they’ll be cheering and thinking, ‘To get a hundred million pounds for him, we’re rubbing our hands.’ Because he hasn’t done anything at Tottenham so far, and he just looks like an average player there.”Credit: @thatfootballphotog / InstagramSandro Tonali’s agent insists Tottenham have transformed the way they operateMany pundits were surprised that the midfielder chose to join Spurs, with Gabby Agbonlahor even suggesting that Tonali only joined Tottenham for the money. However, the former Newcastle man’s agent Giuseppe Riso has now suggested that Spurs proved in the summer that they are operating with more ambition, while also stressing the personal relationship between his client and De Zerbi. When asked about Tonali’s move to North London after links with Man City, Riso said (via TuttoMercatoWeb): “After Newcastle, Tottenham showed they’re choosing differently; they’re courageous.“Tottenham was reborn after the end of the season; Tottenham survived, and De Zerbi came to the club, telling him they needed him as a leader. The relationship with De Zerbi carried a lot of weight.”Roberto De Zerbi continues to have faith in TonaliEven though the midfielder has come under scathing criticism in the media, De Zerbi has continued to back Tonali publicly. The Spurs boss is confident that the Italy international will come good once he adapts to the new environment.De Zerbi said about Tonali earlier this month: “He’s a good guy, he’s working very hard, and I’m happy to have Sandro. We are lucky to have Sandro with us. The adaptation has been not so fast but it can happen.“Also in Milan in the first season, ok, he was younger, but it is not so easy to change city, to change everything for the players. Sometimes the adaptation is immediate, sometimes you need more time. I think also Tonali against Everton played well.”READ MORE: Tottenham battle four rivals for Tomas Araujo amid £68m release clauseThe post ‘Tottenham was reborn’ – Sandro Tonali’s agent reveals how Spurs beat Man City in £100m race appeared first on Spurs Web.
