They weren't in their 40s but my ex Sil was in her late 20s and he was in his late 30s. Anyway nobody in the family (up to 4th cousins) knew what to get them. Until she commented on how lucky we were having a washer and dryer. Everyone gave me what they would have spent, I went to Sears where we lived and picked them out. Well, the store where they lived was having a sale so I got a nicer set. Our Sears gave me the booklets and I wrapped them up in a shoebox. The look on their faces when they opened it !! Worth all of the footwork and phone calls. She looked at me like she couldn't believe it. Just from an off hand comment.
