Former Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli names the four stars he absolutely loved to play with during the Mauricio Pochettino years.Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles in front of goal this season have been a major talking point, with the Lilywhites managing just two goals in five matches. Those strikes came only in Spurs’ last outing against Aston Villa, from centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke and midfielder Conor Gallagher.Tottenham invested heavily in centre‑forward recruitment over the summer, bringing in Omar Marmoush and Savio for a combined £145 million. Marmoush’s £60 million fee is set to be paid next summer, but despite the outlay, the pair have yet to make their mark in attack.Roberto De Zerbi will now be hoping Spurs’ attacking fortunes improve once the international break is over. Meanwhile, one former player who was no stranger to scoring goals in a Tottenham shirt has opened up on the club’s front four from a few seasons ago.Photo by Alex Morton/Getty ImagesDele Alli names favourite Tottenham teammatesThe player in question is Dele Alli. During his time in North London, the midfielder was impressive, registering 67 goals and 59 assists in 269 appearances.Alli was also a part of one of the most exciting Spurs sides of the modern era during the 2016/17 season, when the team managed a club-record 86 points, went unbeaten at White Hart Lane and finished second. The former Spurs midfielder, speaking in a recent interview, has now revealed the best players he ever played with at Tottenham and on his list are two of the club’s best goal scorers. He said: “Harry Kane. That front four and Moussa because Moussa made my job so easy because when he gets the ball you know he’s not going to lose it. So all you have to focus on is getting him into a dangerous position so when he can find the pass you know you can receive it and hurt the other team.“Eriksen, because I naturally would drift into the left pocket, he would actually drift into the right pocket then I’d make the run so he even knew to lay the ball and I knew to make the run. We both had that connection and H was, you know, it was just give him the ball and it’s an easy assist pretty much.“And Sonny, because he listened. Sonny’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Like I could say to Sonny, stay touchline, because he’s obviously left wing it creates more space for me to drift in. I’d drift over to the left to his side so the right-back’s now confused because he’s got both of us. He’s talking to the centre-back, when the centre-back thinks the right-back’s got me, that’s when I’d time my run in behind and then Eriksen would play the ball.”🎙️ Former #THFC midfielder Dele Alli on the favourite players he’s played with: “That front four, and Moussa.” 🤍 pic.twitter.com/1jabMNKeNQ— Hotspur Lane (@HotspurLane) October 2, 2026Spurs miss the star quality of Dele’s eraThe sort of profiles mentioned by Alli are greatly missed at Tottenham right now. Several of those players were world-class talents in their prime. Harry Kane remains a renowned goalscorer; Heung-min Son was one of the best wingers of his generation, while Moussa Dembele was a dominant force in possession, earning praise from teammates and opponents alike.Steven Gerrard believes the absence of such superstars is one of Spurs’ biggest problems today.Speaking after Tottenham’s recent defeat to Aston Villa, he said: “What I would say, I think Tottenham have signed good quality players and you can see the squad is littered with really good players.“But I look at this Tottenham team and I do not see that world-class superstar. Your Harry Kane, obviously he has moved on. But if you are playing against this Spurs team or you are coming up against them as an opposition player or a coach, I think they are stoppable.“I do not see any of the players that would strike fear into me. But you think about Manchester City – Haaland strikes fear into everyone because you know he can win a game at any given moment. You look at Chelsea’s front three – Cole Palmer, he can change a game at any given moment.“And they are consistently doing that. Liverpool with Isak once he is fit and available. You have seen it at Newcastle. I look at Tottenham and think they have got a lot of really good players, but have they got that real superstar?”READ MORE: Tottenham and Aston Villa both eye Nicolo Tresoldi, five goals already this seasonThe post Dele Alli names his four favourite Tottenham teammates, one ‘made my job so easy’ appeared first on Spurs Web.
