In an exclusive chat with Spurs Web, former Tottenham defender Pascal Chimbonda names two of his former teammates he believes would have thrived under Roberto De Zerbi, including one who could have helped solve the club’s goalscoring problems.Tottenham Hotspur’s troubles in front of goal have been well documented this season, with Spurs scoring just two goals in their opening five Premier League games – both coming in their most recent 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa.Spurs did bring in attacking reinforcements in Savio and Omar Marmoush during the summer, but neither has so far managed to get on the scoresheet and provide the finishing touch that Tottenham have been missing in the league. It makes the problem all the more frustrating when looking at the individual numbers because the top four players in the Premier League for take-ons per 90 minutes are all Tottenham players – Mohammed Kudus leading the way ahead of Savio, Mathys Tel and Marmoush.Unfortunately, football can be cruel if a team cannot turn its attacking play into goals. That is exactly what is happening to Spurs, leaving supporters to sulk over the ongoing three-week international break with their club sitting bottom of the Premier League table, despite the football itself offering considerably more encouragement.Photo by Bryn Lennon/Getty ImagesPascal Chimbonda thinks Aaron Lennon and Dimitar Berbatov would suit De ZerbiWe asked former Tottenham man Pascal Chimbonda in an exclusive interview which former teammate from his two-year stint at the club he thinks would really suit playing under Roberto De Zerbi, and why.The French defender, who scored three goals for the north London club, named his former winger Aaron Lennon, with whom he shared the pitch on 80 occasions.“I think Aaron Lennon because he can use is pace to pass people and create danger.”Chimbonda brought another former teammate into the conversation – Dimitar Berbatov, who was also part of the starting XI in Tottenham’s historic 2-1 League Cup final victory over Chelsea in 2008. Berbatov scored Spurs’ equaliser that night before Jonathan Woodgate headed home the winner in extra time.Chimbonda added: “And also Berbatov to score goals.”Some of the Premier League’s best said Aaron Lennon was unplayable on his dayAaron Lennon spent a decade at Tottenham and remains one of the most exciting wingers Spurs have had over the past two decades. His goalscoring numbers were modest, with Lennon finding the net 27 times for the club, but that hardly tells the full story of his threat. At his best, the right-footed winger was almost impossible to contain – something several of the Premier League’s biggest names acknowledged during his career.Frank Lampard described Lennon as a ‘world-beater’, while David Beckham said he ‘went past players like they weren’t there’.More recently, Ashley Cole, widely regarded as one of the finest left-backs in Premier League history, also admitted how difficult Lennon was to face.“I played against some top players, you know, Aaron Lennon always gave me a tough time…”There is little doubt that if Roberto De Zerbi could have the services of a prime Aaron Lennon and Dimitar Berbatov in his current Tottenham side, Spurs would be in a much better position.READ MORE: Heung-min Son just told Tottenham to sign £12m Oh Hyeon-gyu as ‘idea tactical fit’ – Spurs WebThe post Exclusive: Pascal Chimbonda names two old Tottenham teammates De Zerbi would have loved appeared first on Spurs Web.
