Lumen Field is widely regarded as one of the best stadiums in the NFL – and has even been registered as one of it’s loudest. However the prospect of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks leaving their storied home remains a worrying concern for fans.Seattle are the reigning Super Bowl championsGettyVinod Khosla completed a record-breaking $9billion purchase of the Super Bowl championsAFPThe $9billion sale of the franchise to a group led by tech billionaire Vinod Kholsla has put the fanbase on notice that changes may be coming to one of the league’s most stable setups. Not least because under the leadership of Microsoft founder Paul Allen, and more recently Allen’s sister Jody on behalf of the Paul Allen Estate, team ownership always seemed to put the fans first. It has delivered the franchises two Lombardi Trophies, including February’s win over the New England Patriots down the Pacific Coast in San Francisco.Days after that triumph the franchise were put up for sale, in accordance with the requests in Paul Allen’s will, ownership having passed to the trust after his death in 2018.NFL Weekly Newsletter - SIGN UP!talkSPORT is your home for NFL in the UK as we launch our biggest year of coverage yet!2026 promises to be an epic year for NFL on talkSPORT – and we want you to join us for the ride.MORE INFO & SIGN-UP HERE!This season will be our biggest ever with live commentary of 90+ games, including behind-the-scenes access to international games and all three London fixtures, plus bumper coverage of Super Bowl 61 at SoFi Stadium.Exclusive interviews, hard-hitting opinion, latest front-office drama and top breaking news – all delivered straight to your inbox each week. The Khosla family won out in the bidding process, with the record-breaking sale ratified by the other NFL owners on September 3.As was the case with the sale of Allen’s NBA franchise Portland, and in accordance with his wishes – the proceeds were donated to charity. At that press conference, Vinod Khosla found out first hand what the spotlight of being an NFL owner can do as he admitted to growing up watching the Pittsburgh Steelers – and more significantly still watching their games. He had also sold his minority stake in the 49ers following the purchase of the Seahawks.Khosla – whose wife Neeru is named as the team’s controlling owner – was quick to dismiss criticism of his Steelers past, but he may find himself facing awkward questions from the fanbase again. In a wide ranging interview with Axious, he didn’t quite to commit as much as fans would like to the team staying at Lumen FieldLumen Field has been ranked the NFL’s top stadium heading into 2026GettySeattle won their first Super Bowl since 2014 with a win over New EnglandAFP“I will never say never,” he said, leaving the door slightly ajar.“Will this team be in Seattle 500 years from now? But I have no current plans to change anything about the team, including the coach, president, operation or Lumen Field. It all functions well.”It’s likely little more than a guarded answer, but it is similarly non commital to the answer he gave earlier in the summer as the sale process was ongoing. But when pressed he did not add a great deal of commitment – beyond admitting his journey as an NFL owner was still in its infancy.Jody Allen oversaw the sale of the Seahawks to the Khosla familyGetty“Three months ago I wasn’t even thinking about buying an NFL team,” he added.“Now I ended up with a Super Bowl-winning team with one of the most amazing fan bases. But I know very little about running a team. I don’t think I’ll do anything but learn for a while.”The Seahawks lease on Lumen runs through until 2032, which has given room for questions to be asked – that is despite the presence of three 10-year extension options. Those options underline what Seahawks fans are used to, an ownership with the team’s presence in Seattle and commitment to the 12s at it’s heart.A city that has already lost – and is hoping to regain – it’s storied NBA team the Supersonics, would not be the kind of city that takes kindly to a relocation of anything.Lumen Field has been voted as the best the NFL, and showcased its fanatical support during two games for the USMNT’s recent World Cup on home soil.Khosla and his family are just a few months into their time as NFL owners, and its perfectly understandable they would not want to rule anything out, or in after just weeks in position. But the reaction to a couple of moments already will have shown them exactly what they are dealing with in the Pacific North West.
