'No evidence of fracture': Bengal govt to probe Mamata Banerjee's 2021 'injury'

Suvendu accuses Mamata of faking 2021 injuryNEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday accused his predecessor Mamata Banerjee of faking her injury during the 2021 state assembly elections.Adhikari added that a fresh inquiry would be launched to probe Mamata Banerjee's “false claims” of injury. He claimed that there was no evidence of fracture or dislocation in the-then CM's medical report issued by treating hospital.“Mamata Banerjee faked her leg injury during campaigning in Nandigram in 2021. We have the medical report which stated that there was no evidence of fracture or dislocation. We will initiate an investigation into the matter,” PTI quoted Adhikari as saying at a press conference in Kolkata. He also displayed the TMC supremo’s medical report issued by the Bangur Institute of Neuroscience.“Her false allegation insulted the people of Nandigram. I will come out with more details after the MCC (model code of conduct) is lifted after October 9... Today, I am saying this in support of my claims made yesterday,” he added.His remarks came ahead of the Nandigram byelection scheduled for October 6. The counting of votes will be held on October 9.The Nandigram constituency was vacated by Adhikari after he defeated Mamata Banerjee in her Bhabanipore stronghold in the West Bengal assembly elections in April.He also won from Nandigram, his traditional seat, but chose to keep Bhabanipore.On March 10, 2021, Mamata Banerjee, the-then chief minister, sustained injuries to her left leg and waist while campaigning in the Reyapara area of Birulia in Nandigram.She initially alleged that a few unidentified people had deliberately pushed her against the door of her open car, causing it to slam into her left leg amid a heavy crowd.In a video message from the hospital, she said the “massive crowd” had pressed against her car while she was greeting supporters, causing her leg to be crushed and injured.The TMC supremo was diagnosed with severe bone and ligament injuries to her left ankle and foot, along with bruising and pain in her right shoulder, forearm, neck and waist.
