Dismantling work has begun on Carlos Stivala’s unauthorised structure in Sliema, a day after the Planning Authority ordered its immediate removal.Moviment Graffitti confirmed the development in a social media post, saying that public pressure against the takeover of public spaces is beginning to have an impact.Yesterday, the Planning Authority confirmed that it had issued enforcement notice EC/122/26 following several complaints about the structure, including representations from the Sliema Local Council.Concerns had been raised over the occupation of public space, pedestrian accessibility and potential implications for road safety.According to the Authority, enforcement action began while the structure was still being erected, with those responsible initially instructed to stop all works before being formally ordered to remove the unauthorised development. While dismantling has now begun, Moviment Graffitti has warned that the work must go beyond the partial removal of the structure. The activist group is demanding that the entire canopy, along with the tables, chairs, planters and paving, be removed.Moviment Graffitti said it would continue monitoring the situation closely and warned that it would take direct action if all the elements it described as illegal were not removed.Meanwhile, the Planning Authority has warned that further enforcement measures could be taken if those responsible fail to comply with its notice. What do you make of the situation?Photos via Moviment Graffitti•
