Tottenham star Andy Robertson is on the verge of reaching a milestone that only a handful of players have had the honour of achieving in the game. The experienced left-back was the first Tottenham signing of the Roberto De Zerbi era, joining on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool ran out.Given Destiny Udogie’s fitness issues, Robertson has started regularly for Spurs so far this season and has arguably been the best of the club’s 10 summer signings, many of whom are still finding their feet at Hotspur Way.The Lilywhites full-back has been as consistent as ever for Scotland during the international break, and he will soon write his name into the nation’s history books.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramJohn McGinn hails Tottenham star Andy Robertson ahead of 100th Scotland capRobertson is now on 99 caps for Scotland and is set to win his 100th this evening as they take on North Macedonia in Skopje. The Tottenham man will become just the second Scot in history to reach the milestone following Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish, who won 102 caps.John McGinn has paid tribute to Robertson, hailing his exemplary attitude and professionalism, and admitting that the left-back is an example for younger players in the squad.McGinn said about his captain (via The Daily Mail): “The commitment, the desire to always be available even when he was competing at the top of the European game, the top of the English game. Jurgen Klopp was obviously a demanding manager. His body would have been knackered at times, but even through the pain barrier, he was always available for Scotland, even when it was at 60 and 70 per cent.“He deserves everything that comes his way now. Everything that comes his way hopefully in November and March (when he breaks Dalglish’s record). But, having spoken to him, he’s going to take it in his stride. He wants to go for more and try and achieve more, and I feel the exact same way.“He likes to talk things down but he is an inspiration to every young player in Scotland that’s facing some sort of rejection. Feeling like going to part-time football means their dream of being a professional footballer over.‘He is the shining example that that’s just not the case, and it’s been an absolute honour to stand beside him during this.”Scotland boss hails Robertson’s leadershipDe Zerbi cited Robertson’s leadership as one of the reasons he was keen to bring him to Spurs, and it is the same quality which has now been hailed by his international boss.Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli spoke glowingly of the commitment that the 32-year-old shows to the group and the pride he has in wearing the shirt.Ahead of Robertson’s 100th cap, Pocognoli said: “I have not been here a long time, but I am in contact with Andy since the first day. He is very important in all the process that we are building not only on the pitch, but also off the pitch. I think he’s a great professional, a great person, and he inspires a lot of players in the group, but also many young players. Fair play to him. He will have nice attention in this match and I hope we can have good memories with a good game.“He is a great captain. From the first day, he has been important for me, as he was for the previous coach. He is really committed about creating a connection between the coaching staff and the players. He is always giving his best and is very proud to represent Scotland every time. He is really important for all of us. I know Scotland is one of his main targets at this time in his career. I hope we can extend his number of games and I think we will.”READ MORE: ’27 major trophies’ – Darren Bent reveals where Tottenham rank in London’s top five clubsThe post Tottenham have an 'inspiration' who is about to join 100 club, and he didn't cost a penny appeared first on Spurs Web.
