Two British nationals have been arrested at Malta International Airport after police allegedly found suspected cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy, as well as dozens of bottles of nitrous oxide and around €1,000 in cash. The arrests took place at around 11pm on Wednesday, after police received an anonymous tip claiming that a man and woman were allegedly selling drugs inside the airport’s departures hall.Officers were given a description of the pair and immediately began searching the terminal, locating them a short while later on the airport’s lower level. The two suspects, a 33-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, both British nationals, were subsequently arrested. Police then analysed CCTV footage from the airport and established that the pair had allegedly been using a vehicle parked in the airport car park.A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered four packets containing a substance suspected to be cocaine, two packets of suspected cannabis and seven pills suspected to be ecstasy. Officers also found 54 bottles of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, as well as approximately €1,000 in cash, according to police. The substances have not yet been confirmed as illegal drugs, with police describing them at this stage as suspected cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy. Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in court today at around 12:45pm before Magistrate Franco Agius, where they are expected to face charges in connection with the case.Police investigations remain ongoing.•
