In the middle of September, I closed VS Code after six years and switched to an IDE I built myself. I'm a software developer with 15 years of experience, and CodeBär started as a side project: an AI-first IDE built around how I actually work now. VS Code has become too big. I don't need most of it when I spend all day working with LLMs. What I need is a fast tool that lets me work effectively with LLM CLIs, review their output, and handle Git through a light abstraction. That's 99% of my workflow these days. CodeBär doesn't do all of that yet, and I'm still improving it. But it's already good, and it uses about 9x less memory than VS Code, which is always a nice bonus. It's open source, so check it out: https://github.com/oleksbard/codebaer Feedback welcome! submitted by /u/neketguy [link] [comments]
