Samuel Reveron leaves Manhattan Criminal Court on Friday in New York.Barry Williams / New York Daily News via Getty ImagesThe madness in Democrat-run New York City reached a whole new level this week. Federal immigration authorities were forced to step in and clean up yet another absolute mess created by soft-on-crime leftist judges and “sanctuary” policies.25-year-old illegal alien Samuel Reveron Ascanio, also known as “mole man,” was taken into federal custody after New York City authorities released him following his arrest on a criminal trespassing charge, according to the New York Post report.“New York City had a clear opportunity to transfer this individual to ICE in a secure, controlled environment,”ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations New York City Field Office Director Kenneth Genalo told the Post.“Instead, the city recklessly released him despite his repeated arrests and unresolved criminal charges — a choice that needlessly returned an alleged public-safety threat to the streets. … ICE will not allow noncooperation to deter us from enforcing federal immigration law and protecting our communities,” he added. An ICE spokesperson added that under President Trump and Secretary Markwayne Mullin, “criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the US,” and that agents are working to remove “these often violent, dangerous offenders from our communities.”Reveron Ascanio entered the United States illegally in August 2022 and was released under the Biden administration’s open-border policies, the spokesperson said. The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Reveron and Kevin Rodriguez, 26, were arrested after they were spotted climbing out of a manhole near Park Avenue and East 61st Street, blocks from the Loews Regency New York, the hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regularly stays during the U.N. General Assembly.A 911 caller reported three men emerging from the sewer around 4:30 a.m. The NYPD arrested Reveron Ascanio on Sept. 24 and charged him with criminal trespassing. He was also hit with driving on a suspended license, sources told the Post.Surveillance and a criminal complaint laid out a pre-dawn operation: vehicles pulled up, a group opened the manhole, and the men dropped into the tunnels. They later drove off across the Queensboro Bridge. License-plate readers helped detectives track them to Queens. Both men told detectives they went underground “to look for valuables that get washed away in the storm drains and sewers,” according to the complaint. Reveron was blunter with police, the Post reported: “We go into the sewer and look for valuables that get stuck in the storm drains and sewers, gold, anything of value.”Authorities said the caper was part of a wider “mole people” pattern, scavengers in hip waders popping out of manholes for gold, jewelry, and scrap, and not a plot against Netanyahu. That did not make the timing any less alarming. World leaders were in town. The tunnels run under the streets where they stay.Rodriguez, described by the Post as a legal U.S. resident living in Queens, was also charged with criminal trespassing. A third man was still being sought.Reveron Ascanio pleaded not guilty and was released the next day by Judge Sheridan Jack-Browne on the non-bail-eligible trespass charge, court records show. His lawyer, Brian Kennedy, told the Post the ICE arrest was “news to me” and waved the case off: “This case is so petty.”It was not his only case.A federal arrest warrant had already been issued two days before the sewer incident, an ICE spokesperson said, tied to a Sept. 20 arrest for alleged criminal mischief, stripping parts from a U-Haul van in a Queens parking lot without permission.New York’s sanctuary rules did the rest. “The NYPD does not participate in civil immigration enforcement, in accordance with New York City laws,” a department spokesperson told the Post. This is the same Judge Jack-Browne who, the Post noted, previously released sex offender Gerardo Miguel Mora, 45, a Mexican migrant, on Jan. 29 despite a federal ICE detainer.Mora had been deported in 2014 after serving time for attempted rape and was back on a crack-possession charge. Federal agents arrested him before he left the courthouse. The post ICE Steps In to Arrest Gold-Hunting Illegal Alien ‘Mole Man’ Who Emerged From NYC Sewer After Lefty Judge Set Him Free appeared first on The Gateway Pundit.
