Credit: Gage SkidmorePresident Donald Trump fired back at Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) on Truth Social after the Arkansas Republican refused to move the Sunshine Protection Act, telling him to stop his ego and “TAKE THE WIN” for the Senate and the Republican Party. The Gateway Pundit reported earlier Saturday that Cotton answered Trump’s pressure campaign, including a post that published what Trump said was the senator’s cellphone number, with a flat refusal.“No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter,” Cotton wrote.“Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.”No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter. Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch…— Tom Cotton (@SenTomCotton) October 3, 2026In a lengthy Saturday response on Truth Social, Trump accused Cotton of standing in the way of an easy bipartisan victory and argued that Arkansas voters would be better served by getting rid of the maddening ritual of changing clocks twice every year.Trump then turned the dispute political, reminding Cotton that the president has repeatedly carried Arkansas by overwhelming margins.Trump also accused Cotton of allowing his “ego” to stand in the way of legislation that already sailed through the House with broad bipartisan support.Trump wrote on Truth Social:“If Tom Cotton were putting Arkansas first, he would give them an extra hour of daylight and, more importantly, they wouldn’t have to run all over their houses, farms, work places, and everywhere else, twice a year, having to change their Clocks, and often forgetting to do so. That is really putting Arkansas FIRST, and I know, because, unlike Tom, I won that Great State, three times, and by almost 40 points!Additionally, it would be a very nice and easy WIN for the Republican Party, in particular, the Republican Senate, a place where we could use some WINS! The House approved, long ago, “The Sunshine Protection Act,” by a very Bipartisan Vote, 308 to 117. It has been held up in the Senate, a place where things go to die, by Tom Cotton, for months! — And for what, other than “ego?”The reason that it was terminated in the past was that certain Congressmen and Senators, from long ago, used it as a “negotiating chip” for far more important Legislation — And they got plenty! Everybody loved it, but it was given up in order to get bigger, better, and more consequential “things.”Give the Republican Party a Senatorial WIN, for a change! Thank you to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and all Members of the House of Representatives, both Republican and Democrat, who so overwhelmingly approved “The No More Ridiculous Changing of Your Clocks Act,” and who so strongly want their “SUN” in the afternoon, rather than the early morning — Loved by Farmers, Sportsman, and Sports.Daylight Saving Time is 65-35 in the Polls but, why wouldn’t it be — Who wouldn’t want more “SUN” in the afternoon than in the morning? It’s even been proven to be better in stopping CRIME, something of which I have done an Historic job because, CRIMINALS DON’T LIKE WORKING IN THE LIGHT.Not wanting to change your many Clocks, including for Church Steeples and Municipal Buildings is, however, a 100% issue. TAKE THE WIN TOM, JUST TAKE THE WIN! YOU NEED IT, AND SO DOES OUR BELOVED REPUBLICAN PARTY!”Official House records show that H.R. 139, the Sunshine Protection Act, passed 308-117 on July 14, with 193 Republicans, 114 Democrats and one Independent voting in favor. As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the Trump-backed bill was then sent to the Senate, where it has remained stalled. And on Friday, The Gateway Pundit reported that Trump had specifically called out Cotton for helping block the legislation, arguing that Americans are sick and tired of resetting their clocks every spring and fall.Cotton’s stated reason is the 1970s experiment. Congress tried year-round daylight saving time during the energy crisis and backed off after complaints about late winter sunrises and children waiting for the bus in the dark, the same argument he used when he objected to a similar push in 2025.One senator can still keep a bill off the floor. Trump’s point is simpler: the House already delivered a bipartisan vote, Americans are tired of resetting every clock in the house twice a year, and the Senate is the place the win goes to die.The post Trump Responds to Tom Cotton in Scorched-Earth Truth Social Post Over Blocked Daylight Saving Time Bill: “Take the Win Tom, Just Take the Win” appeared first on The Gateway Pundit.
