Everything in the video came out of it. It's two tools in the browser at orbitstudio3d.com: Terrain: pick any spot on the Moon or Mars and it builds the real terrain as a jigsaw puzzle or an ornament. It uses NASA's LRO LOLA data for the Moon and MGS MOLA for Mars. You can choose circle, square or hexagon, add your own frame text, and turn the terrain exaggeration up, because at true scale a lot of regions look flat. There are 78 landmarks to jump to if you don't know where to start, like Tycho, the Apollo sites, Olympus Mons and Jezero. Sky: pick any place and any date and time, and it builds the night sky from that moment as a star map plate. It includes stars down to magnitude 6, all 88 constellations, and the planets and Moon where they actually were. The night sky STLs are free, right now, no account needed. Both export STL and a multicolor 3MF with the colors already assigned, and nothing needs supports. Mercury and Venus are next on the terrain side. Generating is free in both tools. Downloading terrain models works with a pass from the MakerWorld crowdfunding: https://makerworld.com/crowdfunding/333-orbitstudio-3d-print-the-moon-mars. Access codes start rolling out in 6 days. submitted by /u/OrbitStudio to r/3DPrintingTools [link] [comments]
