Ok fellow nurse renditions. My father, who can be a wonderful man in other regards, is a recalcitrant asshat when it comes to compliance with recommendations for managing his Parkinson's. Other than his meds which thank whatever diety he takes as prescribed. He told me years ago that once he could no longer drive to take him out and shoot him. He can't, and has adjusted poorly and reluctantly to that. I know he's keenly feeling his lack of independence and probably trying to control what he can - like whether or not to see ST or use his walker in the middle of the night. I need your best ideas on ways to sway him to keep his ass off the floor and his food out of his lungs. Already planning to try and convince him change his outlook to that his mobility aids aren't limiting, they're letting him stay safe to preserve what independence he has. As far as aspiration, I don't know if anything will actually work since my ST sister hasn't been able to through his thick skull. I love my dad and am dreading the day I have to say "no more, bring on the morphine" as his POA. I don't want his hardheadedness to bring that day sooner than it should be. My mom is at a breaking point and has her own health issues to deal with so as the oldest and one of the few people he entertains listening to she's asked me to basically have an intervention with him. submitted by /u/andishana [link] [comments]
