The hypothetical: You are treating a patient for (insert your specialty here) and they report that they've been experiencing SOB, arm/jaw pain, and nausea for the past three days. You take their vitals: heart rate and blood pressure are well within their normal range. They do not appear in any immediate distress. They have never been seen by a cardiologist. How urgently would you react? Would you call 911? Recommend they drive themselves to the ER that day? Recommend making an appointment with a cardiologist? I've been using this BP Algorithm for my practice, however I'm realizing that if a patient is symptomatic but not experiencing a SUDDEN onset of heart attack symptoms, and is hemodynamically stable, the only recommendation appears to be "call MD and monitor". I'm a new grad and don't feel comfortable making the decision for this particular type of hypothetical patient yet; I will discuss with my supervisors after this weekend but wanted to pose the question here to see what other specialties might do. submitted by /u/DisposableCharger [link] [comments]
