THE RUNDOWNSarah Jessica Parker attended the New York City Ballet's Fall Fashion Gala.Parker commented on where she currently stands regarding pulling from Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe. While Parker has occasionally pulled from the archive for personal use, she’s said it’s an exception rather than the norm. For six seasons of Sex and the City and more, Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe became as iconic as the character herself. From Manolo Blahnik heels to Fendi bags and Betsey Johnson dresses, Carrie’s closet helped establish her as one of television’s most influential and fashionable characters. But despite having access to the archive herself, Sarah Jessica Parker has historically drawn a pretty firm line between her own wardrobe and Carrie’s. On October 1, at the New York City Ballet 2026 Fall Gala, the actress told People why she keeps a boundary between the two closets.“I don’t wear any of the wardrobe that I wore on the show ever,” Parker said. “I have it, it’s an archive, but I never wear it. I never have.”For Parker, the distinction comes down to the fact that the clothes belong to a character—and, in many cases, represent singular moments in the show’s history.“‘Cause it’s pieces that are, in many cases...there’s only one of them, or I’ve already asked a lot of them on screen,” she explained. “There’s just a huge separation between myself and Carrie Bradshaw. It would be like walking around in Sarah Sanderson’s costume,” she said of her iconic character from Hocus Pocus. “It just—it doesn’t seem applicable to my life.”Ron Galella, Ltd.//Getty ImagesThe comment contrasts with one she made in 2025, in which she said she pulls from Carrie’s archive for personal use on “few occasions,” before making clear that “it’s not every day.”At the time, she said her judgment on whether to do so depends on the situation at hand, and whether it risks the integrity of the piece.“What would the circumstances and the environment be that I would be wearing this, and would it be okay and safe, or would it be destroyed? I’m very judicious about that,” Parker said at the time. One such occasion was a birthday party in England where she “just did it.”Over the years, Parker continued to inhabit Carrie through And Just Like That..., where the character’s relationship with fashion remained central to the story.“I have no interest in integrating my life into Carrie’s or making her more familiar,” Parker said last year. “It’s the very reason I like playing her is that—despite the fact that we look a lot alike and we do have a couple of overlaps, she is wonderfully and radically different than me.”
