A new immersive exhibition is coming to Valletta this October, inviting visitors to slow down, reflect and explore their relationship with time, memories and mental wellbeing.Reflections Through Time brings together artists Inese Refalo, Zeltite Upeniece and Francesca Puglisi, with more than 40 paintings, prints and mixed-media works set to take over the Basement Vaults of the Malta Society of Arts.Running from 9th to 23rd October, the exhibition has been deliberately timed to coincide with World Mental Health Day on 10th October. But visitors won’t simply be looking at art on the walls. The exhibition is split into three interconnected sections, beginning with each artist’s individual interpretation of time before moving into interactive stations featuring mirrors, where visitors themselves become part of the experience.A third section will feature moving mixed-media artworks powered by actual clock mechanisms, physically bringing the passage of time into the exhibition space.“Reflections Through Time grew from conversations about memory, the passing of time, mental wellbeing, and how easily meaningful moments disappear when life moves too quickly,” the artists explained. Each of the three approaches the theme from a different perspective. Refalo draws heavily on personal stories, Upeniece takes inspiration from astrological perspectives on nature, while Puglisi’s work emerges from her close relationship with the natural world.Rather than attempting to make those styles identical, curator and participating artist Inese Refalo said the aim was to allow their individual voices to exist within one larger conversation.“My focus was to bring three very different artistic practices together, finding connections through our shared values while preserving each artist’s individuality,” she said. And you don’t need to be a contemporary art expert to get something out of it.“Just come with an open mind and take your time,” Refalo said. “If something makes you stop, think, feel or even start a conversation, then we have achieved what we hoped for.”The exhibition will officially open at 7pm on Friday 9th October, at the Malta Society of Arts’ Palazzo de La Salle on Republic Street. It will then remain open until 23rd October, Monday to Friday between 9am and 7pm and Saturdays between 9am and 1pm.Best of all, entrance is completely free. Will you be stopping by to experience Reflections Through Time?•
