Sheddy Barglan took to the pitch for FC Den Bosch on Saturday evening whilst suffering from jet lag. He had just returned from his international duty with Sudan and had had some very unusual experiences in Africa. “We arrived in Mozambique at 10.00, but weren’t allowed into our hotel rooms until 14.00. I slept in the lobby for four hours.” “Normally things are better organised; I’ve never experienced anything like this before,” said Barglan after the 1–1 draw against Dordrecht. “The food wasn’t good either. At the buffet, we were given two trays of food. But when we’d lost, we suddenly got five, and the food and drink were absolutely delicious. It was quite funny to see, but of course it wasn’t right.” That wasn’t the only thing. “We were given five limp balls to train with, for example. We were still using the same ones during the warm-up. The coach also arrived an hour late, which cut into our training time. You do have a bit of a laugh about it, but you also know you have to deal with it. It’s a shame it has to be like this.” In March, Mozambique are due to visit South Sudan (because of the war, Sudan aren’t playing at home). “They might just get their comeuppance, haha. I’ve heard they’re going to have a tough time of it. I’m not going to do anything about it; I just want to play football. But I am curious.” Barglan wasn’t just in Mozambique, but also in Saudi Arabia and South Sudan. He had nine flights in twelve days. “It’s been a really chaotic week. I’ve never had so many flights before either. But it was a very special week, being able to play for your country. I also played two full matches.” On Saturday, the striker played for another half an hour for FC Den Bosch. On his birthday, and after the match, he also received a present. “Yes, apparently I’m Man of the Match,” says Barglan with a laugh. “I thought it was because it was my birthday, but apparently not.
