Former Tottenham Hotspur star Troy Parrott did something outrageous for Ireland against Austria, which will have Spurs fans wondering whether the club made a big mistake letting him go.Parrott was always highly regarded while coming through the ranks in the Tottenham academy, but the striker was never able to establish himself in the first-team squad. The centre-forward left Spurs for AZ Alkmaar in a £6.7m move back in the summer of 2024, and he went on to score 51 goals across 97 appearances during his two seasons at the Dutch club. That prompted Real Betis to sign the Spurs academy graduate this summer for around £17m, with the Lilywhites netting £3m from Parrott’s move to Spain due to a sell-on clause that they held on the player.Photo by Charles McQuillan/Getty ImagesVideo: Former Tottenham striker Troy Parrott scores wonder goal for Republic of IrelandThe striker has started the season in fine form for Betis, and he has taken that form to the international stage, starring for the Republic of Ireland in their 2-2 draw against Austria in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Thursday.Parrott scored both of the home side’s goals, with his second coming from the penalty spot in stoppage time during the first half. However, it was the former Tottenham man’s first strike that took many people’s breath away, with the 24-year-old being faced with almost the entire Austrian backline when he received the ball just ahead of the halfway line.Parrott showed tremendous skill to nutmeg one defender and go past another, before sliding a smart finish underneath the onrushing goalkeeper.Watch his wonder goal below:Would you take Troy Parrott back at Tottenham? pic.twitter.com/PlDznUiQEY— The Spurs Web (@thespursweb) October 1, 2026 Parrott is already proving to be a huge bargain for Real BetisThe striker has already found the back of the net twice since his move to Betis, once in La Liga and once in the Champions League. It is starting to seem like the £17m that the Spanish side paid for him was a huge bargain. Tottenham could have signed him for an even lower fee, given their sell-on clause. In fact, earlier in the summer, it was reported that Spurs had explored the idea of re-signing Parrott, and the North Londoners may now be having major regrets that they chose against pursuing the striker.READ MORE: ‘He looks delighted’ – Tottenham fans all say same thing about shock Richarlison appearanceThe post Video: Troy Parrott scores the best goal of his career and it will make Tottenham sick appeared first on Spurs Web.
