A 26-year-old man from Gozo was arrested for using a fake online profile to manipulate several people, including minors, into sending indecent photos and performing sexual acts on camera.The man posed as a 17-year-old and used pictures of real social media users to build trust. He threatened victims, some as young as 10, with exposure to their schools and communities if they refused to comply as reported by Times of Malta.His arrest followed reports from two men whose photos were misused. Police confiscated electronic devices from his residence, confirmed his identity, and are urging other victims, especially minors, to come forward.He is to be arraigned in court soon.Police also issued a public appeal urging people to remain vigilant while using social media and to avoid sharing personal or sensitive photos with strangers.“Our appeal is to remain vigilant when using social media, avoid sharing personal or sensitive photos with strangers, and report any suspicious behaviour to the Police,” authorities said.The force also encouraged anyone who may have experienced similar behaviour, or who has information that could assist ongoing investigations, to come forward and contact police.Authorities stressed that online exploitation can affect anyone and urged the public to report concerns as early as possible.•
