Prime Minister Robert Abela has pledged that residents affected by the recent fireworks factory explosion will not be left to shoulder the cost of damages alone if insurance policies fail to provide full compensation.Speaking to Lovin Malta during a press conference marking the launch of Delta Air Lines’ new direct route between Malta and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Abela expressed solidarity with those impacted by the incident and said the government is currently assessing the extent of insurance coverage available.“First, we need to establish what damages have been suffered and whether the insurance policies in force will cover all damages sustained by third parties,” he said. However, the Prime Minister signalled that the government is prepared to intervene should insurance fall short. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)“We have always been a government that never leaves anyone behind,” Abela said. “If the insurance policies do not cover everyone, we certainly will not leave residents who suffered damages through no fault of their own to carry the burden alone.”Abela described support for affected residents as a government obligation, particularly in cases where people suffer losses unfairly and without responsibility for the incident.A fact-finding exercise is currently underway to determine the extent of insurance coverage and any remaining financial gaps.“If there are balances that are not covered, the government is ready to help,” Abela said. What do you make of the PM’s comments?•
