Prime Minister Robert Abela has pledged that residents affected by the recent fireworks factory explosion will not be left to shoulder the cost of damages alone if insurance policies fail to provide full compensation.Speaking to Lovin Malta during a press conference marking the launch of Delta Air Lines’ new direct route between Malta and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Abela expressed solidarity with those impacted by the incident and said the government is currently assessing the extent of insurance coverage available.“First, we need to establish what damages have been suffered and whether the insurance policies in force will cover all damages sustained by third parties,” he said.However, the Prime Minister signalled that the government is prepared to intervene should insurance fall short.
