New labour market figures have revealed a significant gap between Malta’s highest and lowest-paid occupations.According to the National Statistics Office, the average monthly basic salary across all employees stood at €2,270 during the first quarter of 2026.Managers recorded the highest average basic salary at €3,628 per month, while workers employed in elementary occupations earned an average of €1,410.The highest-paying economic sector was financial and insurance activities, where employees earned an average monthly salary of €3,105.The figures form part of the NSO’s latest Labour Force Survey, which analysed employment, salaries and labour market trends during the first three months of the year.Are wages in Malta keeping up with rising costs?•
