Woman tries to bring a hot sauce bottle for trip. Then TSA took one look at the shape and raised every red flag

A traveler recently shared that bringing novelty items through airport security can apparently lead to awkward moments with agents. Sunday Leigh, known as @sundaymariee on TikTok, appears to have shared her experience of being pulled aside for extra inspection after a TSA agent reportedly spotted a bottle of hot sauce in her carry-on bag. In the video, Leigh shows the encounter took place when the agent flagged the item because of its unusual design, which she shows prompted a closer look at her bag. The hot sauce, reportedly made by The General’s Hot Sauce, appears to come in a bottle shaped like a grenade. According to Brobible, the product is designed to support veterans and their families, but the shape could be a concern for security staff whose job is to keep prohibited items off planes. To a scanner, that specific silhouette may read as something far more dangerous than a condiment. The agent reportedly handled the situation professionally The short clip appears to show her walking behind an agent, followed by a scene where an agent opens her bag, revealing the grenade-shaped hot sauce bottle inside. According to the caption on her post, the agent was reportedly very kind about the situation and brought her to a separate counter so she could mail the bottle home instead of having it confiscated. She added on-screen text as a warning to other travelers, writing, “PSA don’t try to bring hot sauce in the shape of a grnade through TSA.” For travelers wondering about the rules on hot sauce, the TSA website indicates it generally allows it through security, as long as travelers follow the standard liquid guidelines.  According to TSA guidelines, every container must be less than or equal to 100 ml, with larger bottles required to go in checked luggage. For frequent flyers, it may be worth deciding if TSA PreCheck is worth it before the next trip. There is a persistent rumor circulating on Reddit that travelers can reportedly get around this by freezing liquids solid. One user said, “If you are taking it as carry-on it needs to be completely frozen when going through TSA.” In response to this, another user said, “and note: if it’s in a glass jar and you freeze it while it’s sealed, it has a high chance of breaking the glass. Unseal it, dump a bit out so it’s less than 90% full, then put it in the freezer until solid, then seal the cap. Once you thaw it at home in the fridge, use it within a few days.” @sundaymariee Common sense can be difficult the TSA agent was so kind and brought me to a counter to have it mailed home #airport #travel #fyp ♬ Boarding Pass – Outer Circle The agents who run these checkpoints have also faced their own difficulties, including a period when TSA officers went without pay during a government shutdown. The reaction online has apparently been entertaining, with many viewers appearing to point out the issue with the bottle’s design. One commenter joked, “I mean it does give you explosive…diarrhea.” Another person claimed to have had a similar experience, saying, “Security checked my bag, asked what this circle shape was, my mom said bath bombs. The world stopped.” One user quipped, “Now you’re in hot sauce.”
