Prime Minister Robert Abela has defended his decision to appoint Jo Etienne Abela as Tourism Minister, insisting that his Cabinet reshuffle was designed to make the best use of the skills available within his team.Speaking to Lovin Malta during a press conference marking the launch of Delta Air Lines’ new direct route between Malta and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, Abela was asked why Jo Etienne Abela was chosen to lead the tourism sector despite previously serving as Health Minister.The Prime Minister pointed out that several ministers had been assigned different portfolios compared to the previous legislature, arguing that the changes were intended to maximise the strengths of his Cabinet. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)“The diverse competencies within the team I have the privilege to lead have been utilised in the best way possible,” Abela said.He described the reshaped Cabinet as part of a “reinvigorated” government and said ministers had already “hit the ground running” with a clear focus on delivering results during the administration’s first 100 days.Abela highlighted a number of priorities the government intends to advance in the coming months, including reforms to Malta’s IVF framework and changes to the planning appeals process before both the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.He also stressed that the government’s agenda remains guided by commitments made in its electoral manifesto, including its ambitious Wellbeing Index target.Among the administration’s long-term goals, Abela said the government aims to improve the wellbeing of Maltese residents by 25% by the end of the legislature through progress across the ten indicators that make up the index.“The first 100 days will demonstrate how this government intends to turn those commitments into reality,” he said.What do you make of the PM’s comments?•
