The GTA 6 effect continues to impact the entire video game industry as developers are increasingly setting their sights on February 2027 instead of the usual fall window. Now, Metro 2039 is adding to the mix. As shown during today’s XBOX Games Showcase, the newest entry to the Metro series is set to come out next February as games increasingly avoid clashing with Rockstar’s behemoth. Alongside the release date, we finally got to see what the new game will be about, and it seems we’ll be controlling a new protagonist instead of the usual Artyom, this time battling a very on-the-nose Führer who leads the Novoreich (New Reich). A lot of story elements were trippy, weird, and surreal and quite obviously comments on the current situation unfolding in Europe’s eastern corner. The gunplay appears realistic and visceral and not too far removed from what we saw in Metro: Exodus. We only got to see very little of everything in 2039, but from everything in that brief trailer I saw many direct upgrades to systems and mechanics established in the previous game. Metro 2039 launches in February 2027, adding to the long tally of video games coming out that month, which will make it one of the most packed months in gaming ever. And then there’s this September, which, for the same reasons, is already full to the brim. 0The post Metro 2039 arrives 12 years early as devs confirm February 2027 release window appeared first on Destructoid.
