Man Who Threatened To Turn Ex Into ‘Mincemeat’ Given Suspended Sentence

A 45-year-old man from Bengħajsa was handed a suspended sentence after admitting to threatening his former partner through a series of disturbing voice notes.According to a report by Times of Malta, Julian Vella pleaded guilty to threatening and insulting his ex-partner, as well as potentially becoming violent towards her and their two children.The court heard that the threats were made after the couple were informed by their children’s school that one of the children had contracted chickenpox and needed to be sent home.According to the victim, Vella sent multiple threatening voice messages between 3 and 4 June, including one in which he allegedly said he would chop her into pieces, turn her into mincemeat and feed her to animals.He also allegedly threatened police, saying he “did not give a damn” about authorities and would “kill the police” if charges were filed.The woman later informed police that Vella had called again and threatened to kill her and their children if he was imprisoned.The court issued a protection order in favour of the victim.Vella received an 18-month prison sentence suspended for four years, along with a €1,000 fine.The defence was Silvan Pulis. The prosecution was led by Inspector Audrey Micallef. The case was heard by Magistrate Nadia Helen Vella. •
