There seems to be a very specific type of thinking common to a lot of people where achieving some kind of magical dietary nirvana will cure all ills (and possibly allow you to levitate or something). Is it, similar to other forms of magical thinking like the Law of Attraction, popular because it gives an illusion of agency and an excuse for victim-blaming? That is, if you believe that the magic formula for perfect health and glorious life success is out there somewhere, then you can keep (vainly) pursuing it instead of having to deal with the fact that the glorious perfect life is an unreachable mirage (not least because the lifestyle/wellness gurus will move the goalposts if you reach one goal, so they can get more of your money), and if you believe that people's illnesses etc. are all their own fault because they're not eating the right things (and using the right homeopathic unguents etc.), then you can blame them and finger-wag at them instead of having to feel bad that you can't solve their problems?
