Coast is Clear and the Alfred Mizzi Foundation dive team carried out a major seabed cleanup at Kalanka Bay in Marsaxlokk ahead of the summer season. The operation, supported by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Marsaxlokk Local Council, saw divers remove more than 10 large bags of waste from the popular swimming area.Among the debris recovered were plastics, fishing lines, shotgun cartridges, clothing, rubber masks, sunglasses, bikinis and three large metal ladders.Photos and videos shared online showed divers working along the seabed while collecting large amounts of marine waste from the bay.Organisers said the cleanup aimed to make the area cleaner and safer for summer visitors while helping protect marine life in the area. The initiative was also supported by several local companies and organisations, while diving equipment was provided by Watercolours Dive Centre. The cleanup once again highlighted the amount of waste still ending up in Malta’s coastal environments.Huge well done to everyone involved!Images: @coastisclearfoundation•
