Daniel Defense GL/SSC - Grenade Launcher Sound Suppressor Capable

Wait 5 sec.

For 25 years, Daniel Defense has built a reputation on the kind of hardware that ends up in special operations kits. To mark that milestone, the company is reaching back to one of its rarest chapters, a handguard so obscure it borders on myth. The GL/SSC, short for Grenade Launcher/Sound Suppressor Capable, was a slightly shortened version of the legendary RIS II rail, purpose-built for 12.5-inch barrel setups while retaining full M203 grenade launcher mounting capability. Of the 125 originally produced, only 25 reportedly made it into civilian hands. Do any of our readers own one? Clone builders have been cobbling together approximations ever since. Now Daniel Defense is offering the real thing. The DDM4 GL/SSC Pistol is built around a 12.5-inch cold hammer forged government profile barrel in 5.56mm NATO, chrome-lined and mil-spec heavy phosphate coated, running a carbine-length direct impingement gas system. Twist rate is 1:7, muzzle device is a DD A2 flash hider on 1/2x28 threads. The free-floating GL/SSC RIS II rail in Flat Dark Earth is the centerpiece, with the integrated hanger system baked directly into the design for suppressor and M203 compatibility without additional parts or special tools. Receivers are traditional mil-spec 7075-T6 aluminum with hardcoat anodize, pairing a standard (non-ambi) lower with an SB Tactical SBA3 brace, Daniel Defense pistol grip, and a 32-round magazine. Overall length runs 29 to 32.25 inches and weight comes in at 6.2 pounds. For the record-keepers in the clone community, Daniel Defense notes that the new production GL/SSC rails will carry "Savannah, GA" markings rather than the "Black Creek, GA" rollmark found on the originals, keeping the OG 25 provably distinct. The GL/SSC is offered as a pistol or SBR, as well as an upper receiver group for buyers who want to run the platform on their own lower. It ships in a Daniel Defense full-latch impact plastic case. MSRP on the pistol is $2,026, a price point that carries an obvious nod to the anniversary year. Current availability shows out of stock on the Daniel Defense website, with a "Notify Me" option for restock.
