By Mulengera ReportersThe outgoing elderly persons’ minister Dominic Gidudu used the Wednesday handover ceremony at the gender ministry to register his regret to be leaving Cabinet before being able to fulfill his promise to contribute dowry and bride price for fellow Minister Balaam Barugahara. In his characteristic jocular style, Gidudu narrated to people who filled the Ministry’s boardroom to capacity how Balaam had spent all his years at the Ministry assuring them of readiness to find someone for himself and going on to walk down the aisle while making it official he has finally quit bachelorhood. Gidudu said that, because of Balaam’s procrastination on the very important issue of having to get someone to warm his nights, he was saddened that as his elder brother he was continuing to be stuck with his contribution, which he declared to be a package of several cows. Gidudu was dropped and has been replaced with Mrs. Jacqueline Mbabazi. Before a clearly discomforted Balaam, who had spoken earlier, could respond defending himself, the outgoing senior Minister Betty Among, chipped in with “by the way talk about it; the man has kept promising to do exactly that only to keep all of us waiting for an eternity.” Balaam responded by casually blaming Gidudu for keeping equivocating in his offer of contributing towards dowry. “I’m confused about the seriousness of my senior brother’s offer to contribute because his offer has been changing. At first he promised contributing a fish pond and he is now talking about a cow. Who knows, now that he has left Cabinet, he might end up reducing it to a goat or a chicken.” Many Ugandans have continued to be perturbed about Balaam’s continued bachelorhood because he is a rich man with more than enough money required to officially find someone and going on to organize a memorable wedding ceremony.Amongi joked that the same will most likely remain elusive for a very long time because, the new Local Government Minister doesn’t seem to yet have guts to even the date for kukyala and introduction. One only hopes that Honorable Balaam isn’t this comfortable simply because he is busy eating from somewhere else on credit.
